Origin: Callas, often referred to as calla lilies, are actually unrelated to the Lilium family. Instead, they’re members of the Araceae family, which includes anthuriums, caladiums and some philodendrons. The striking Calla is from the genus Zantedeschia, named for 19th century Italian botanist Francesco Zantedeschia. They’re natives of South Africa, where they grow abundantly.
Uses: These elegant blooms are prized for their simple beauty and innate grace. Calla Lilies are exquisite whether paired with other flowers or on their own. A timeless symbol of purity, these exquisite flowers are often found at modern weddings in a Bridal bouquet and table centerpieces. Their lofty sophistication makes them a favorite of designers, artists, architects and Bride’s.
Colors: White and green are most common. Shades of red, mauve-pink, purple, ivory, and golden-yellow are also available in mini calla varieties.
